About School
The School of Sciences (SoS) at IIMT University brings together the disciplines that form the foundation of all scientific enquiry — the physical, mathematical, chemical and life sciences — under a single, integrated academic umbrella. Formed through the merger of the erstwhile School of Basic Sciences & Technology and School of Life Science & Technology, the School unites the study of matter, number, structure and life to create one of the University's largest and most research-intensive academic units.
Our disciplines span Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Statistics, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Botany and Zoology, offering a continuous pathway from undergraduate foundations to doctoral research. This convergence is deliberate: the most important scientific questions of our time — in materials and energy, computational and quantum sciences, environmental sustainability, health and biotechnology — sit at the intersection of these fields. By housing them together, the School enables genuinely interdisciplinary teaching, shared laboratories and collaborative research that a fragmented structure cannot.
Teaching across the School is strongly research-led and aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, offering multidisciplinary curricula, flexible entry-and-exit pathways, and Honours and Honours-with-Research tracks. Students learn in well-equipped laboratories, engage with online learning through NPTEL, SWAYAM and MOOCs, and are actively mentored for competitive examinations such as CSIR-UGC NET, JRF, GATE and PSU recruitment. Beyond the classroom, seminars, conferences, guest lectures, industrial visits, ideathons and community-outreach drives shape students into confident, socially responsible scientists.
Whatever your interest — the elegance of mathematics, the logic of physics, the transformations of chemistry, the patterns in data, or the mechanisms of life — the School of Sciences offers a congenial, stimulating environment in which to develop your skills and make original contributions in the field of your choice.
Research Thrust Areas
Research in the School spans the fundamental and the applied, with active interest in:
- Mathematical, computational and statistical sciences
- Quantum technologies, materials science and nano science
- Chemical technologies and synthesis
- Space, environmental and atmospheric sciences
- Bioengineering and biotechnology for life improvement
- Microbial and environmental technology
- Stress biology and environmental toxicology
- Plant–microbial interactions and biodiversity conservation
- Medical and health-oriented biotechnology
The School promotes interdisciplinary research that connects these areas — for example, computational methods applied to biological systems, or materials and chemical science applied to environmental and health challenges.

Message from Dean
The impact of science, scientific research and technology on our daily lives is profound and unavoidable — and it is accelerating. The School of Sciences was created to meet this moment: by uniting the physical, mathematical and life sciences in a single school, we give our students the breadth to understand problems fully and the depth to solve them. A well-balanced, NEP-aligned curriculum, delivered by qualified and experienced faculty and supported by continually upgraded laboratories, equips our students to meet the demands of academia, research institutions and industry alike. We believe that when quality education is imparted with care, success follows — our graduates go on to hold respected positions in higher education, research laboratories, and the sciences and technology sector, and they remain a lasting source of pride for the institution. Whatever your natural aptitude — in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, or the living sciences of Biotechnology, Microbiology, Botany and Zoology — you will find here a stimulating and welcoming environment in which to grow, discover and contribute to nation-building. On behalf of the School of Sciences, I warmly welcome you.
