About School
The School of Humanities & Mass Communication (SoHMC) at IIMT University brings together the study of human society and the practice of modern media under a single, integrated academic umbrella. Formed through the merger of the erstwhile School of Arts & Humanities and School of Media, Film & Television Studies, the School unites literature, language, economics, political science, sociology, psychology and history with journalism, mass communication, film and television.
Our disciplines offer a continuous pathway from undergraduate foundations to doctoral research. This convergence is deliberate: understanding society, culture, economics and politics is the foundation of responsible, effective communication — and the two are strongest when studied together. By housing the liberal arts and media within one school, SoHMC enables genuinely interdisciplinary learning, shared research, and a curriculum in which analytical depth and creative, hands-on media practice reinforce one another.
Teaching across the School is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the CBCS framework, offering multidisciplinary curricula, flexible entry-and-exit pathways, and Honours tracks. Humanities students engage in inquiry, contemplation and field research, while media students train in a professional ecosystem of television and radio studios, editing suites and media labs — including the community radio station IIMT Radio FM 90.4. The School emphasises the holistic development of students, rooting them in Indian heritage through foundation courses such as Bhartiya Sanskriti and Rashtrya Gaurav, while preparing them for competitive examinations, higher study and diverse careers.
Beyond the classroom, seminars, national conferences, guest lectures by eminent scholars and media professionals, internships with leading news organisations, cultural activities and University Social Responsibility (USR) initiatives shape students into confident, ethical and socially responsible graduates. Whether your interest lies in the elegance of literature, the logic of the social sciences, or the craft of storytelling across print, broadcast, film and digital media, the School of Humanities & Mass Communication offers a congenial, stimulating environment in which to develop your skills and make an original contribution in the field of your choice.

Message from Dean
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the School of Humanities & Mass Communication, IIMT University, Meerut. This School was created on a simple conviction: that the study of human society and the practice of modern media belong together. The humanities teach us to ask challenging questions, understand the world as it is, and imagine the world as it ought to be — while media and communication give us the craft to tell those stories and shape public conversation responsibly. Here, foundational disciplines such as literature, history, economics, political science, psychology and languages sit alongside journalism, film and television, so that our students graduate as thoughtful, articulate and industry-ready professionals. Our NEP-aligned curriculum blends intellectual rigour with practical exposure — newsroom and studio practice, live radio, internships and field research — all delivered by experienced faculty and working media practitioners. Whether you aspire to be a scholar, writer, civil servant, journalist, filmmaker, editor or communicator, you will find here a stimulating and welcoming environment in which to discover your strengths, sharpen your voice and contribute to society and nation-building. On behalf of the School, I warmly welcome you.
