Mr. Charandas Persaud interacted with the students at IIMT University Meerut. “Strong relations are maintained between India and Guyana. During the Covid epidemic, India playing the relationship of a good friend and gave 80 thousand vaccines to our country. Guyana and India are working side by side in many areas”, said Mr Charandas Persaud who praised India, the largest democratic country in the world while interacting with the students of IIMT University.

The High Commissioner of Guyana, Mr. Charandas Persaud arrived at IIMT University, Meerut on 23rd September 2022. Confidential secretary Neha Saini and teacher Ruby Harri Parsaud also made the university proud with their presence. Honourable Pro Chancellor of IIMT University Dr. Mayank Agarwal welcomed the High Commissioner and other guests.

After that the High Commissioner of Guyana Mr. Charandas Persaud, Confidential Secretary Neha Saini and teacher Ruby Harri Persaud preceded for the program organised in the seminar hall and the students warmly welcomed them. The High Commissioner and the guests bowed down to the goddess of knowledge Maa Saraswati by lighting a lamp in front of her statue. University Registrar Dr. VP Rakesh, Dr. Vatsala Tomar and Dr. Sugandha Shrotriya welcomed the guests. Mrs. Ekta Sharma anchor of the event properly introduced the High Commissioner of Guyana to all the present students.

Addressing the program, the High Commissioner of Guyana Mr. Charandas Persaud started his address with ‘Namaste’ and the seminar hall erupted with applause. The High Commissioner, who surprised the students by reciting the verses in Sanskrit language, told that 180 years ago Indians reached Guyana and settled there. A large part of the population there is of Indian origin. Like in India, people worship there and celebrate festivals like Janmashtami with joy. In Guyana’s two sugar states, 95 percent people belong to India!

Giving information about the cultural, business and educational ties between India and Guyana, High Commissioner Mr. Charandas Persaud said that India, which has given 80 thousand vaccines to Guyana at the time of Corona disaster, has further strengthened the relations that have been going on for years. India and Guyana are cooperating in many areas.

Responding to the questions of the students of IIMT University, a lawyer by profession Mr. Charandas Persaud said that he used to earn more money by practicing law but it is his privilege to work by accepting the post of High Commissioner as a service to the country. Known as the ‘Land of Many Waters’, there are many rivers in Guyana. To preserve the natural beauty and environment, protected areas have been created where people are not allowed to do commercial activities or hunt.

On the humble request of the student of the university, the High Commissioner sang “maa to hai maa-2, maa jaisa duniya mein hai koi kahan”, remembering her mother, then the High Commissioner and all the teachers and students present in the auditorium became very emotional.  Mr. Charandas Persaud asked the students to ring their mother and sing this song for them. Visiting the university campus, the High Commissioner appreciated the IIMT campus and the quality of education.

In the end, Dean School of Commerce and Management of IIMTU,  Dr. Satish Kumar expressed his gratitude to the guests. Dean of School of Engineering, IIMTU, Dr. Sanjeev Maheshwari presented mementoes to the High Commissioner and the guests. The program was overlooked by Dr. Sugandha Shrotriya. Director Administration Dr. Sandeep Kumar, Bodhisattva Seal made a special contribution.
