About Optometry
Optometry is a healthcare profession that is autonomous, educated, and regulated (licensed/registered), and optometrists are the primary healthcare practitioners of the eye and visual system who provide comprehensive eye and vision care, which includes refraction and dispensing, detection/diagnosis and management of disease in the eye, and the rehabilitation of conditions of the visual system. Optometry Council of India was set up as a representative and regulatory body for the eye care practitioners in India. The Optometry Council of India (OCI) is a self – regulatory body that was established in September 2012 under the Company Act and registered under the company act 25A (Not- for- Profit Company). This organisation was formed with the help of Indian Optometry Federation (IOF) and Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry (ASCO).
Academic degrees such as Bachelor of Optometry, Master of Optometry and Doctor of Philosophy in Optometry are awarded in India by the universities recognised by University Grants Commission (India), a statutory body responsible for the maintenance of standards of higher education in India. Optometrists across India are encouraged to register with the Optometry Council of India, a self-regulatory body registered under the Indian Company Act.

The IIMT University has been established under Uttar Pradesh Act Number 32 of 2016. Gazette notified by the Government of Uttar Pradesh Dated 16 September, 2016. As per procedure for establishment of any state private university as outlined in the act, the university shall promulgate its ordinances and statues/rules and regulations for conduct of various programs.
