Bridging Theory and Practice: Department of Optometry’s Industrial Visit to C.L. Gupta Eye Institute

At IIMT University, we believe that the best learning happens when classroom concepts meet real-world application. Upholding this vision, the Department of Optometry (Allied Health Sciences) recently organized an insightful industrial visit to the prestigious C.L. Gupta Eye Institute in Moradabad on November 23, 2025.

The visit was specifically curated for the 28 students of the B.Optometry 2nd and 3rd years, aiming to provide them with exposure to advanced clinical setups and expert mentorship.

Gupta Eye Institute.

The Symposium: UPBVEP-2025

The highlight of the visit was the one-day symposium on "Clinical Orientation and Advances in Binocular Vision," held under the aegis of the Uttar Pradesh Binocular Vision Education Program (UPBVEP-2025).

Binocular vision—the ability to maintain visual focus on an object with both eyes, creating a single visual image—is a critical area of optometry.

Understanding the nuances of how the eyes work together is essential for diagnosing complex vision disorders.

Learning from the Experts

The students were privileged to attend sessions delivered by distinguished experts in the field. These sessions moved beyond textbooks, offering deep dives into real-life case discussions and the latest technological advancements.

Key speakers included:

  • Ms. Gayathri Prabhu R (Binocular Vision Expert & Consultant Optometrist)

  • Ms. Sonia Sharma (Director and Co-founder, Drishti Vision Care)

  • Mr. Prem Kumar Singh (Binocular Vision Therapy Incharge, AGM Hospital)

The experts provided valuable insights into binocular vision examinations and therapy, equipping our students with knowledge about the latest protocols used in top-tier eye care facilities.

From Lecture Hall to OPD

Following the symposium, the visit transitioned into an experiential learning phase. Students explored various Outpatient Departments (OPDs) at the institute.

This segment included:

  • Hands-on Training: Students practiced clinical procedures under supervision.

  • OPD Exploration: Observing patient flow and management in a high-volume hospital setting.

  • Technology Exposure: Viewing state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment in action.

Faculty Guidance

The success of this industrial visit was made possible through the dedicated guidance of the IIMT faculty. The group was led by Dean Dr. Mukesh Kumar and Ms. Anuprakshi Malik (HOD, Optometry), along with faculty members Ms. Sristi Ghosh, Ms. Falak Naaz, Mr. Shariq, and Ms. Samriddhi Sood. Their mentorship ensured that every student remained engaged and maximized their learning opportunities during the visit.

The visit to C.L. Gupta Eye Institute proved to be a significant milestone for the B.Optometry students. By witnessing the practical application of their studies, they returned to IIMT University not just with enriched knowledge, but with a renewed passion for the field of eye care.

Events like these reaffirm IIMT University’s commitment to producing industry-ready healthcare professionals equipped with both theoretical wisdom and practical expertise.
