Mastering Ocular Aesthetics: Recap of the Innovation in Ocular Prosthesis Workshop

Bridging Art and Science: A Recap of the “Innovation in Ocular Prosthesis” Workshop

In the rapidly evolving world of eye care, the bridge between medical rehabilitation and aesthetic restoration is vital. Today, the Department of Optometry took a significant step in strengthening this bridge by successfully organizing the “Innovation in Ocular Prosthesis: IIC Hands-On Learning and Awareness Program.”

The event saw enthusiastic participation from 92 B. Optometry students, all eager to expand their clinical horizons beyond standard vision care.

Leadership and Guidance

The program was orchestrated under the visionary guidance of Dean Dr. Mukesh Kumar and Head of the Optometry Department, Ms. Anuprakshi Malik. The seamless execution of the event was ensured by IIC Event Coordinator Dr. Gunjan Chaudhary, along with the dedicated support of faculty members Ms. Sristi Ghosh, Ms. Falak Naaz, Mr. Shariq, and Ms. Samriddhi Sood.

Inauguration and Vision

The session commenced with a warm welcome and the felicitation of our distinguished guest speaker, Mr. Subrata Roy, by Dean Dr. Mukesh Kumar.

In his opening address, Dr. Kumar set the tone for the day by emphasizing the core pillars of modern optometry: innovation, robust clinical skills, and, most importantly, compassionate patient care. He highlighted how ocular prosthesis is not just about physical restoration, but about restoring confidence and dignity to patients.

Learning from the Expert

Mr. Subrata Roy led an excellent, interactive session that perfectly balanced theoretical knowledge with practical application.

The workshop covered critical aspects of ocular rehabilitation, including:

  • Prosthetic Design: Understanding the anatomy and aesthetics required for a natural look.

  • Impression Techniques: Mastering the delicate art of fitting.

  • Material Handling: Learning about the biocompatible materials used in modern prosthetics.

  • Patient Assessment: How to evaluate a patient's specific needs for a custom fit.

The highlight of the day was the hands-on learning segment. Students actively participated in practical activities, moving beyond textbooks to gain tangible clinical exposure. Mr. Roy explained complex concepts with great clarity, ensuring that students grasped the nuances of this specialized field.

Empowering Future Optometrists

The program was not just technical; it was a career-opener. The session introduced students to future advancements in the field and highlighted the growing career opportunities in ocular rehabilitation.

Overall, the program was enriching and informative. It achieved its goal of helping students strengthen their technical skills, improve their clinical judgment, and—crucially—gain the confidence required to perform ocular prosthesis procedures.

The event concluded with a warm vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Anuprakshi Malik, Head of the Optometry Department, who acknowledged the efforts of the organizing team and the enthusiasm of the students.

The Department of Optometry extends its heartfelt gratitude to all dignitaries, faculty members, and especially Mr. Subrata Roy. His valuable contribution made this IIC activity a resounding success and significantly enhanced the learning experience for our future eye-care professionals.
