Selection of student council
The representative body selected shall only comprise of regular students on the role given by the institution.
Selection Process
The process of selecting the council members is as follows:
- Head of the Institution will put up the guidelines/eligibility criteria on the notice board in their respective school/college/department.
- Applications from the interested students shall be invited giving time of at least one month. Applications shall be received by the Office of the Dean of the school.
- Short- listing of the eligible candidates will be done by the Screening Committee.
- Composition of the screening committee; Dean, HOD, Two girl students, One Female faculty, One Male faculty ,2 boy students, two girl students, One Dean of other school nominated by the Vice Chancellor and one senior academician from other University Nominated by the Vice Chancellor. Dean of the concerned School will be the Head of the screening committee.
- Among students there must be representation of SC/ST student.
- After verification of the credentials of the shortlisted candidates, the incumbent can be called by the Dean of the Institution (heading the Screening Committee) for screening/interview and selection after which a merit list program wise will be made.
- One council member from each program is to be selected.
- The list is to be sent to the office of Vice Chancellor for approval
In this way council members from all the school/college will be a member of the student council of the University.
Eligibility Criteria for the student council Candidate
- Under graduate students between the ages of 17 to 20 may contest elections. This age range may be appropriately relaxed in the case of professional colleges, where courses often range between 4 to 5 years.
- For Post Graduate Students the maximum age limit to legitimately contest an election is 21 - 25years.
- For research Students the maximum age limit to legitimately contest an election is 25-28 years.
- The candidate should have attained the minimum percentage of attendance as prescribed by the Programme / School or 75% attendance, whichever is higher.
- The candidate shall not have a criminal record she/he should not have been tried and/or convicted of any criminal offence or misdemeanour. The candidate shall also not have been subject to any disciplinary action by the University authorities.
- The candidate must be a regular, full time student of the University.
- No first year & final year student can apply.
- The students will have to submit an affidavit by their parents.
Committee of the Students Council of the University
- Vice Chancellor – Chairman.
- One Professor nominated by the Vice Chancellor.
- NCC/NSS Programme Officer.
- All council members selected from each programme at School/college level.
- Director of Sports & Physical Education.
- One student from each of the following activities who has shown outstanding performance nominated by the Vice Chancellor:
